Bryan Smeets was extremely disturbed by the performance of referee Kevin Puts during the away match against Jong Ajax (3-0 loss). The MVV Maastricht midfielder was torpedoed by Kian Fitz-Jim on Monday evening, but that escaped Puts' notice. Incomprehensible, says Smeets.

MVV had little to gain from Ajax's promises on Monday evening. The Limburgers saw newcomer Julian Rijkhoff score twice and Nassef Chourak also contributed.

“We felt like we were behind the times from the very first moment,” Smeets begins his analysis ESPN. “We didn't get into the match for a moment, we didn't manage to make a fist. We let Ajax show their quality and they did that for ninety minutes.”

“They were in a very good position, we had no answer to that. In the first half we had a few moments when we put some good pressure, but then the final pass was not accurate. That was a shame.”

Smeets himself was tackled firmly by Fitz-Jim, who planted his foot on the lower leg of the MVV midfielder. “It is incomprehensible to me that nothing is being done with it,” said Smeets.

“I don't understand why the arbitration doesn't see this. He (Fitz-Jim, ed.) puts it all out there, but he doesn't even get a card, nothing. Then he (Puts, ed.) walks away and he has zero point zero respect towards me. Then he acts tough and arrogant. That was the case the entire match, that I thought: you're just whistling, shit, that's it!

“I told him that he has no respect. Then just come to me, if necessary during half time. But the fact that you don't see that is incomprehensible to me. He then deliberately left me on the sidelines for a few seconds. says enough about such a person for me.”

At the bottom of the line, Smeets thinks the defeat is justified. “It was not a good match for us today. Young Ajax deservedly won. We were not involved. I expected much more from it.”
