PSV strengthened last weekend with Eran Zahavi, who according to Football International and the Eindhovens Dagblad could have chosen to switch to Ajax at the last minute. Prior to the game with RKC Waalwijk (3-0 victory) this rumour was disproved by coach Erik ten Hag, but agent Ronan Katzav maintains that the Amsterdammers were in the market for the 33-year-old Israeli striker.

“It’s the other way around. He’s been resigned to us by his agents. We looked at it and eventually we didn’t do it”, Ten Hag reacted in front of the camera of FOX Sports to Ajax’s alleged interest in Zahavi. When reporter Milan van Dongen asked for confirmation whether Ajax had indeed made no attempt, the practice master said: “Once again: his agents have left this player with us”.

“You don’t have to offer a player like Eran Zahavi anywhere. We’ve had ten good club offers for Eran and out of respect for those clubs I don’t make any announcements about them. At Ajax they can say what they want. I don’t do that, I have a reputation to uphold”, says Katzav, who has been representing Zahavi’s interests for ten years, in conversation with Football International to the words of Ten Hag.

“By the way, there was no discussion where Eran would go. PSV was his first choice. Eran wanted to work with Schmidt. In China, he had already tried to get Eran to Beijing. Then we also sat with him. Schmidt’s philosophy appeals to us very much, Eran only wanted to go to PSV”, says Zahavi’s agent. Football International emphasizes that in Eindhoven people maintain that Ajax was ‘concretely in the market’ for the rush hour, which eventually signed for two years with PSV and came over from Guanzhou R&F.
