Timon Wellenreuther will extend his contract with Feyenoord, writes journalist Rik Elfrink of the Eindhoven Daily Newspaper on X. The 28-year-old goalkeeper from Germany was previously linked with a transfer to PSV, but has now given his word to Feyenoord.
On Monday afternoon, transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano reported that Atlético Madrid and PSV are in talks about Walter Benítez. The 31-year-old goalkeeper is contracted to Eindhoven until mid-2025, but according to Elfrink, he may leave for a 'fair price'. PSV is reportedly aiming for an amount of around 10 million euros.
If Benítez leaves PSV, the Eindhoven national champion will look for a successor externally. According to Elfrink, that will not be Wellenreuther. “Wellenreuther has already given his word to Feyenoord. There have been inquiries about him before, but that path has never become very concrete for PSV.”
This makes it seem that Wellenreuther will become the new first goalkeeper at De Kuip. The German youth international previously indicated that he no longer wanted to play second fiddle at Feyenoord. Wellenreuther's contract expires next year, but he will most likely extend it in the short term.
Feyenoord took Wellenreuther over on loan from RSC Anderlecht in the summer of 2022. A year later, a definitive purchase option of 1 million euros was exercised. In the absence of first choice Justin Bijlow, Wellenreuther has repeatedly shown himself to be an excellent and reliable goalkeeper.
The counter now stands at 40 official matches for Feyenoord, in which Wellenreuther played 16 clean sheets noted. He had to fish 37 times. With Feyenoord, the German became national champion (2022/23) and cup winner (2023/24).

His name has been linked to big clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United in recent months, where he is mainly seen as a reserve goalkeeper. “I think that if these big clubs come forward for him, he will be gone,” said Valentijn Driessen.
