English media are rock-hard in their assessments of Manchester United’s performance against Liverpool. In front of their own audience, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team went down with 0-5 on Sunday the Reds. It’s not raining enough for United’s players. Harry Maguire gets from the Guardian one two, while Manchester Evening News doesn’t even think his performance is worth a point. The local newspaper therefore gives him a zero.

The Manchester United rear guard was no match for the Liverpool front guard on Sunday. Maguire in particular has to suffer in the media. “He has to be at the top of the league table based on the number of goals he gives away to the opponent. A walking disaster that is to blame for just about every goal Manchester Evening News. Edinson Cavani gets the highest point with a four. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba get a one. The latter came in after 45 minutes of play and was shown a red card fifteen minutes later after a rash tackle.

David de Gea is in the Guardian one of the two players with a pass. Despite five goals against, the Spanish keeper gets a seven. “The only United player who did his job.” Mason Greenwood (six) is the other United player with a pass. Maguire’s performance is rated with a two, the second lowest score. “A boy against the men of Liverpool,” it sounds after the unfortunate performance of the United captain. Only Pogba scores lower than Maguire with a one because of his red card.

Similar points are awarded in the Daily Mail. The tabloid gives a two to Shaw, who couldn’t get a grip on Mohamed Salah for a moment. The Egyptian scored three times and provided the assist on Naby Keita’s opening goal. “He simply couldn’t handle Liverpool’s number eleven,” it sounds like. Solskjaer also gets a two from the newspaper, the lowest figure that is handed out. “He wanted the team to put pressure on Liverpool, but failed miserably. A complete humiliation.”

Bee Sky Sports the arrows are aimed at Pogba, who gets a two as a mark after his short raid. “After United’s performance in the first half, you had to do something very special to take over the negative spotlight from your team-mates, but Pogba succeeded.” Maguire and Shaw both get a two. “The captain himself is not in shape at all and also does not manage to properly organize the players around him. He really has to take responsibility now,” Maguire said.
