Theo Janssen is not impressed by the substitution of Lassina Traoré and Oussama Idrissi against AS Roma. Trainer Erik ten Hag brought the two within the lines for the last ten minutes to change the 1-1 score, but the attackers of Ajax could not show themselves in the final phase. Janssen says in the studio of RTL that he might have brought in an extra midfielder earlier.

“They really added zero”, is the opinion of Janssen about the performance of Traoré and Idrissi, who replaced Perr Schuurs and David Neres. “I understand it in itself, you have to have guys on the field who can score goals. Then you go to your couch to see which guys can score a goal there. He brings Traoré and Idrissi, which are switches you can do. I am only in favor of bringing an extra midfielder. When you throw the ball in, you almost always pick up the second ball and you can continue playing football. ”

“With five attackers on the field, you know that if you lose the ball you will fall short of someone. You saw that coming back, ”Janssen continues. Ten Hag already brought Brian Brobbey in at half-time at the expense of Antony, while Mohammed Kudus also came in for Edson Álvarez. “You had Traoré and Brobbey deep, but Klaassen also joined,” says Jan Boskamp. “There were no players for the falling ball. Once they did not have that second ball and that was the goal of Roma. ”

“Stekelenburg has had one or two balls on target. They have only created little ”, Janssen analyzes the game of Ajax, which could not polish away the damage suffered in the 1-2 lost first leg in Rome. “It’s nice that they have a lot of ball possession, but it’s about the odds. That was far too little. The second half was a bit better, because they were looking for the long ball behind the last line of Roma. Ajax came out well a number of times in the second half. Only that stopped pretty quickly. ”
