Borussia Dortmund qualified for the second round of the DFB Pokal tournament on Saturday. The team of the officially debuting trainer Marco Rose was 0-3 too strong for SV Wehen Wiesbaden, which plays in the 3. Liga. Erling Braut Haaland was the big man with a hat trick. Donyell Malen made his debut as a substitute in the 66th minute for those Boruses. Borussia Dortmund open the new season on Saturday with a home game against Eintracht Frankfurt.

From minute one it was clear that Borussia Dortmund did not underestimate the opponent. Rose’s team played concentrated, completely dominated the first half and had with Haaland, who together with Stefan Tigges, the vanguard of BVB formed a cool finisher in the ranks. After 26 minutes, the Norwegian had already scored his first goal of the season. After a clever cross pass from Marco Reus, Haaland cleared the ball behind goalkeeper Florian Stritzel just inside the penalty area: 0-1.

Five minutes later, Haaland was knocked down by Stritzel or he consciously got caught behind his arm, after which the referee pointed to the spot. He shoved the leather dry and low into the left corner: 0-2. The home team got off to a good start in the second half, but Borussia’s first and best attack was immediately hit and Haaland was again the celebrated man. After a pass from Giovanni Reyna, he wanted to play Stritzel through the legs, which only half succeeded, but in the rebound the Norwegian still worked the ball into the empty goal: 0-3.

Malen made his appearance after 66 minutes as a replacement for Tigges, while Reus made way for Thorgan Hazard. Borussia Dortmund appeared to be content with the generous lead, although Malen was wanted and the attacker tried to liven up his debut with a goal. Eight minutes before the end, after preparatory work by substitute Axel Witsel and Reina, the ex-PSV player shot the ball against Stritzel.
