Eric Gudde simply reports on Friday evening with the championship scale in Alkmaar when SC Cambuur can secure the title in the Kitchen Champion Division on a visit to Young AZ. The director of professional football of the KNVB was previously advised against by Cambuur trainer Henk de Jong to hand out the bowl, but Gudde is not interested in that. The director of the football association did not make himself popular in Leeuwarden last year with the decision not to have any club promoted from the Kitchen Champion Division.
With a victory over Young AZ and loss of points by De Graafschap against Almere City, the championship is a fact for Cambuur on Friday evening. The lead of De Jong’s team is nine points with four rounds to go. De Jong announced last week that he would not benefit from a visit by Gudde at a possible championship. “It is better not, also for him. That is what I mean in human terms. He shouldn’t do that, that’s unwise. Furthermore, he is a very neat man ”, the trainer said to him Algemeen Dagblad.
As usual, the director of professional football hands out the championship scale to clubs in the Eredivisie and the Kitchen Champion Division. Gudde therefore sees no reason to deviate from this and simply hands over the bowl himself, should the time come. In 2018 and 2019 he already handed out the bowls to PSV, Young Ajax, FC Twente and Ajax. “Strange that a trainer presents himself as spokesperson for the club. What does he want to achieve with this? I do have my responsibilities as KNVB director ”, Gudde responded to De Jong’s words.
The football season came to an abrupt end last season due to the corona crisis. The KNVB decided to shut down the Eredivisie and Kitchen Champion Division and ultimately not to let it play out. No champion was declared and clubs were not relegated from the Eredivisie, while Cambuur saw promotion to the highest level through the nose. Next season, the club from Friesland will report to the Eredivisie again, as promotion was already secured last week. This means that Cambuur returns to the highest level after a five-year absence.
