There is once again a commotion in the English media about images that have appeared of an apparently drunk Jack Grealish. The images, which have appeared on a TikTok account, show the attacking midfielder from Manchester City being refused entry to a nightclub in Manchester, after which he is taken away by what is believed to be a friend. Pep Guardiola is now aware of the incident, but the manager prefers not to publicly condemn his player.

Grealish was joined during the night in Manchester by teammates Riyad Mahrez and Kyle Walker. At the press conference leading up to Wednesday evening’s home game against Brentford, Guardiola was confronted with the incident and the Spanish coach was asked whether he had been disturbed by the trio of the Citizens† “Yes, very bad. I especially think it is very bad that they have not invited me,” said Guardiola with a joke. “And I don’t like that. Hopefully next time I will receive an invitation.”

A TikTok video shows Jack Grealish walking away after apparently being refused entry to a Manchester nightclub.

Guardiola did not want to point the finger at Grealish, Mahrez and Walker during the press meeting. “It is not clear from the video what exactly happened. He (Grealish, ed.) ate with his friends and was still sober at the time. My players know that they run risks when they go out, especially with the social media today. But Riyadh, Kyle and Jack have behaved perfectly. They will nevertheless be fined for not inviting me,” Guardiola repeated. Manchester City denied in a statement that Grealish was not allowed to enter the nightclub due to public intoxication. He would have made the decision to leave himself, it sounded like.

It is not the first time that there has been a fuss in England about the stepping behavior of Grealish, who is in his first season with Manchester City. After the Euro 2020 final and in December, stories also emerged about the 26-year-old player’s drunken escapades. During one of the lockdowns in England in December 2020, Grealish wrecked his Range Rover at high speed. He then received a nine-month driving ban. He was also fined more than 80,000 euros.
