Jeffrey Gouweleeuw’s FC Augsburg has won points from Donyell Malen’s Borussia Dortmund. The number two of the Bundesliga took the lead in the WWK Arena via Thorgan Hazard in the first half, but had to take the equalizer fifteen minutes before the end. With the 1-1 draw against the number sixteen, Bayern Munich runs out to an eight-point lead, as of the Rekordmeister already won 0-1 against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.
Borussia Dortmund were eliminated from the Europa League last week, but will perform excellently in 2022 in the Bundesliga. The team of coach Marco Rose suffered one defeat in six competition matches prior to the visit to FC Augsburg this calendar year. Even without the injured Erling Braut Haaland, Borussia Dortmund immediately took the initiative. Chances for Malen, Mahmoud Dahoud and Hazard preceded the opening goal in the first half hour.
With 35 minutes on the clock, Hazard broke open the game. The wing attacker received the ball from Dahoud, dribbled in from the right wing, cut out two opponents and shot into the far corner: 0-1. Shortly after the break, Malen was close to 0-2, when his effort hit the crossbar. FC Augsburg got better and better in the game as the second half progressed and got a good opportunity via Gouweleeuw, before the score was leveled with just under fifteen minutes to play.
FC Augsburg came out quickly after the ball was captured in midfield. Borussia Dortmund couldn’t get the ball away, giving Arne Maier the space to lash out. His shot lacked power, but was headed against the ropes on the way by substitute Noah-Joel Sarenren-Bazee. Borussia Dortmund couldn’t get over that equalizer in the final phase, allowing Bayern to extend its lead in the title race.
VfL Bochum – RB Leipzig 0-1
PhD candidate VfL Bochum has performed excellently this season with an eleventh place in the Bundesliga and was able to make it extremely difficult for RB Leipzig with Jürgen Locadia as a substitute. Only pulled in the 82nd minute those Roten Bullen the duel. Benjamin Henrichs brought Christopher Nkunku into position after a quick counter and he scored the only goal of the game on the scoreboard in the far corner.
