Go Ahead Eagles will not have to be without a head coach for long. The Deventer team will almost certainly lose current head coach René Hake to Manchester United, but without that deal being finalized yet, it leaks that Paul Simonis will probably be his replacement.

Following earlier reports from The Stentor follows saturday afternoon Football International with the news. Simonis must come over from sc Heerenveen, where he recently extended his contract as assistant coach.

Kowets head coach is no stranger to the club. Simonis already worked for Go Ahead between 2020 and 2022, at the time as right-hand man of Kees van Wonderen.

When the latter became head coach of Heerenveen in the run-up to the 2022/23 season, Simonis followed him to Friesland. Two years later, the 39-year-old coach is taking the opposite path.

It will be Simonis' first job as head coach. Before joining Go Ahead in 2020, the coach worked in the youth academy of Sparta Rotterdam, where he was in charge of the Under 17s and Under 19s, among others.

René Hake

Simonis succeeds René Hake, who is almost certainly moving to England. At Manchester United, he will, together with Ruud van Nistelrooy, assist Erik ten Hag. The expectation is that Hake will be presented at Old Trafford in the foreseeable future.
