Go Ahead Eagles were not surprised in the second round of the TOTO KNVB Cup. Trainer Kees van Wonderen saw his formation beat Roda JC Kerkrade quite easily on Wednesday evening: 2-0. Isac Lidberg had a large share in the cup victory of with two goals in the first half hour in Deventer the Eagles. Roda JC was then unable to make it an exciting duel in De Adelaarshorst.

Lidberg managed to find the net for the first time after five minutes of play during the cup meeting. The first shot on goal by Go Ahead flew into the goal under Roda goalkeeper Loek Hamers: 1-0. The Limburgers showed themselves for the first time halfway through the first half. However, a free kick by Robert Klaasen flew over the home team’s goal. A few minutes later, the task for Roda JC became even more difficult. On a pass from Giannis Botos, Lidberg headed in for Go Ahead, who thus took a comfortable 2-0 lead towards the halftime signal.

In the final phase of the first half, Botos, the declarant at the 2-0, was almost accurate himself. However, his effort on goal from a cross by Giannis Botos was defused in time by the alert Hamers. Little changed in the game after the break. Córdoba saw a shot go over the goal. After an hour of play, Roda had a good opportunity to bring back the tension in Deventer. Denzel Jubitana used too little power to surprise goalkeeper Andries Noppert with a header. With twenty minutes left on the clock, a blast from Botos went through the crossbar and Hamers over Roda’s goal. Go Ahead made a lot of changes in the final phase and in the final minute Ogechika Heil failed to score the 3-0 in a promising position. Nevertheless, the club from Deventer easily joins the last sixteen teams in the cup tournament.
