Go Ahead Eagles has already presented its first acquisition for next season. The club from Deventer announces through the official channels that Xander Blomme will join the selection from next summer. Blomme is taken over from Club Brugge and puts his signature under a contract that binds him to Go Ahead until mid-2024.

The nineteen-year-old midfielder has been playing in the youth academy of Club Brugge since 2015, which took him away from fellow townsman Cercle Brugge. Blomme has no prospect of a breakthrough in the first team with the reigning champion of Belgium, so he decided to respond to the interest of Go Ahead. “After the first contact I started following the club and I was very charmed by the game. It soon became clear to me that I couldn’t pass up this opportunity and decided to go for it with full conviction,” says Blomme.

Blomme has recently played a controlling role, but is an attacking midfielder by nature. “With my aggressive and sharp playing style, I think I can play anywhere in midfield,” he says on the Go Ahead website. “I am really looking forward to playing on this field. It must be a fantastic feeling to play in front of full stands in this beautiful stadium.”

“With Xander Blomme we have brought in an aggressive, controlling midfielder”, technical manager Paul Bosvelt explains the arrival of the first summer acquisition of Go Ahead. “Because of his speed and his ability to read the game well, he intercepts a lot of balls. Also, despite being only nineteen years old, he already plays very mature for his age.”
