Gianluigi Buffon has signed a new contract with Parma. The 44-year-old goalkeeper and Parma owner Kyle Krause announced during a press conference on Monday that Buffon is now associated with the club until mid-2024. It means that Buffon can continue as a professional footballer until he is 46.

Buffon returned to the club last summer, where he made his professional football debut in November 1995. The closing post made the switch to Juventus in 2001 and then came back to Parma via Paris Saint-Germain. This season, as captain, he is a permanent fixture in the number thirteen of the Serie B: Buffon has so far kept 23 official games.

“I have great news: Gigi has extended his contract until mid-2024. He is a great player, our pride. Gigi has a huge passion for Parma and we are happy with his support,” Krause said during the press conference. At the same time, Buffon assured that he can still show the best of himself. Italian media suggest that the 176-time international may continue as a professional footballer for the time being with the European Championship of 2024 in mind. Buffon’s last international match dates from March 2018.
