Werder Bremen is serious in the market for Giorgios Giakoumakis, Marco Bogers confirms the Limburger. The general manager of VVV-Venlo expects that the club relegated to the 2.Bundesliga will soon report to Limburg with an offer. Various German media already reported on Werder Bremen’s interest in Giakoumakis on Sunday evening.

TAG24 spoke of a possible sample transfer for Werder Bremen, while Sky Deutschland reported that there had already been talks with VVV about compensation for Giakoumakis’ contract that runs until mid-2022. “Werder Bremen is seriously interested in Giakoumakis. We expect Werder Bremen to make an offer soon. Then we have to see if we can get out”, says Bogers. VVV would demand approximately five million euros for Giakoumakis.

Venezia, Boavista and PFK Sochi were previously mentioned as candidates, while FC Basel would also have been interested. However, the Swiss top club has not yet continued. For Giakoumakis, a longer stay in Venlo seems almost impossible. The attacker hopes to cash in on his spectacular season, in which he scored 26 times, with a transfer. At the beginning of last month, technical manager Stan Valckx said to ESPN that he did not want to put a price tag on the Greek. “No, I’m not taking part in that. Over two million? Yes, that’s for sure.” He didn’t want to go any further. “It’s not horse trading.”

Giakoumakis – who was taken over from AEK Athens a year ago for 200,000 euros and previously played for OFI Crete and the Polish Górnik Zabrze – will appear on the training field at VVV on Monday. “He will resume part of the group training,” says Bogers. Giakoumakis was missing from the match selection for the first two league matches of the season against NAC Breda (2-2) and TOP Oss (2-1 defeat). Werder Bremen has started the season in the 2.Bundesliga with four points from three games disappointing.
