There is a chance that Noussair Mazraoui will not sign with Ajax despite his earlier statements. The 23-year-old right back, who has an expiring contract in Amsterdam, recently switched to Mino Raiola as agent. According to Mike Verweij, this could mean that Mazraoui will leave Ajax on a free transfer.

“Now it’s a bit double”, Verweij says in the podcast Kick off by The Telegraph. “Mazraoui has called very loudly a number of times that he wants to sign. And I believe that too, because that boy is not ready at Ajax yet. He has also been injured a lot and for a long time. Only on the other side is it: at Raiola players are often given the impression until November, December of: will be fine with that contract extension. Justin Kluivert and Brian Brobbey are of course examples of that. When push came to shove, those players had left.”

According to Verweij, Ajax cannot wait all season for Mazraoui. “I think that Ajax will have to set a deadline for Mazraoui at some point. ‘If you haven’t signed yet, then too bad, but then it will just be Devyne Rensch who will play.’ You don’t have to sell him during the winter break, but in my opinion you should give preference to the boy who does have a long-term contract, and that is Devyne Rensch.”

Lisandro Martínez’s new contract is almost complete, said director of football affairs Marc Overmars this week. Ajax TV. “That’s right, but then Overmars will have to make an appointment to confirm that too,” says Verweij. “Two appointments have already been cancelled, and that is a problem: it is all fairly non-binding at Ajax.”
