Things are not going smoothly with Ajax in preparation for the new season. The team from Amsterdam fell behind on Saturday afternoon in the exhibition match against FC Augsburg due to a huge blunder by Gerónimo Rulli. The Ajax goalkeeper let an apparently simple catch slip through his fingers: Rulli’s own goal, 1-0.
The goal came just before halftime. Augsburg winger Ruben Vargas steamed up on the right and saw his cross deflected by Jorrel Hato. Rulli didn’t seem to take this completely into account and let the ball slip out of his hands.

Villarreal is interested in buying Gerónimo Rulli back from Ajax after six months, Sven Mislintat confirmed on Friday. Ajax’s director of football affairs indicated that Rulli will in principle remain in Amsterdam despite the interest. Rulli himself told Maurice Steijn that he was having a good time at Ajax. The head coach publicly proclaims the Argentine goalkeeper his number one under the crossbar.
