Wilfred Genee would have reported for a switch to Viaplay, media journalist Rob Goossens claims in the program RTL Boulevard. The streaming service of the Swedish Nordic Entertainment Group is to be launched in the Netherlands in the first quarter of 2022 and will broadcast the Premier League, the Bundesliga, Formula 1 and darts, among other things. Genee would like to leave Talpa for Viaplay, despite the fact that he will make a daily talk show with René van der Gijp and Johan Derksen from January and has recently extended his contract with Talpa for two years.
“There are presenters who are like: we have to be there”, begins Goossens. Viaplay also wants to make studio broadcasts around live sports. Jan Boskamp is said to have already been captured by the streaming service. “What I heard is that Wilfred Genee has already reported. That is striking, because from January he has to present the daily talk show on SBS 6 with his Veronica Inside colleagues. That’s basically round. In fact, Wilfred has already signed for two years.”

“But what I hear in the corridors is that he would be tired of working at Talpa and would therefore be open to a switch. The NPO can no longer pay him and he has made some enemies at RTL,” Goossens continues. He is asked whether Hélène Hendriks will take over from Genee in that case. Hendriks will shortly present the weekly quiz program The Bettle, which will be shown on Friday evening after Veronica Inside.
“What I hear is that that is an option,” Goossens responds. “We spoke to Johan Derksen and he was like: then Hélène will take over. I understand that the bosses high in the tree at Talpa also see that as a plan B. It could be. Anyway, in general John de Mol is not really someone to tear up your contract when you have two years left. Then Wilfred has to come up with something good.”
“I notice that Johan is making his mark. Previously, Wilfred was really the boss at Veronica Inside, together with editor-in-chief Jan Hillenius. Now it is Johan, together with that editor-in-chief. Wilfred already has less to say and in my opinion Johan doesn’t mind at all”, concludes Goossens. In RTL Boulevard a response from Genee is quoted: “I’ve learned lately to give the answer ‘no comment’ in some cases. This is such a time.” When asked whether Goossens’ story could be referred to the realm of fables, he responded: “No comment.”
