Chelsea is doing everything possible to recruit Gavi, it reports ASH. According to the Spanish sports newspaper, the 18-year-old Barcelona midfielder at Stamford Bridge could become one of the highest paid players in the Premier League. Due to a legal blunder by the Catalans, the growth brilliant can leave Spotify Camp Nou for free next summer.

Barcelona confirmed in September after long negotiations to have broken open the contract of the apple of his eye. Gavi extended until mid-2026, including a $1 billion escape clause. However, LaLiga refused to approve the contract, as Barcelona’s new earnings would take Gavi above the league’s salary cap. The Catalans successfully appealed, but did so too late. Gavi’s youth contract therefore became active again, which expires next summer.

Chelsea became aware of this and contacted Gavi’s agent, Ivan de La Peña, three weeks ago. The Londoners indicated that they wanted to make Gavi the star of the team and both parties left the conversation with a good feeling. A second meeting with Chelsea owner Todd Boehly and reportedly Gavi’s parents is also planned.

Barcelona’s financial problems and Gavi’s contractual problems pave the way for a transfer to Chelsea, who are willing to offer him “a super contract”. ASH mentions a blank check and states that Gavi faces a dilemma: love or money. Gavi, in turn, is dissatisfied that Barcelona is not making more efforts to solve his contract problem. The eighteen-year-old midfielder believes he deserves more priority given his honors list at this age.

Gavi already has nineteen international matches for Spain and won both the Kopa Trophy and the Golden Boy Award last edition. He is also a key player in the Barcelona that is currently leading LaLiga. Gavi currently stands at 61 matches for his club, in which he scored three goals and nine assists.
