Gareth Southgate has extended his contract with the English Football Association (FA) for two years, according to official channels. The 51-year-old coach will therefore remain the national coach of England until the end of 2024 and according to the Guardian earn 7.15 million euros on an annual basis. Assistant Steve Holland has also signed with two years.

Southgate has responded enthusiastically to his contract extension. “I am pleased that Steve Holland and I have been able to extend our contracts,” said the national coach. “It remains an incredible privilege to lead this team. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the board for their support and of course the players and the coaching team for their hard work.”

“We have a great opportunity ahead of us and I know the fans are all excited about what this side could achieve in the future,” said Southgate, who has been at the helm of the England national team for five years now. He was initially appointed on an interim basis after Sam Allardyce’s resignation in September 2016. During his first final tournament the Three Lions the last four of the 2018 World Cup, where the English lost to Croatia after extra time.

This foundation was built on during the postponed European Championship in 2021. England recorded its best performance in 55 years by reaching another final at a final tournament. The dream was to win the European Championship in their own country, but Italy turned out to be too strong in the final after penalties. England have already qualified for next year’s World Cup in Qatar. The country secured the World Cup ticket last Monday after a 0-10 victory over a visit to soccer dwarf San Marino.
