Galatasaray has ended a mediocre series in the Süper Lig. After only one paltry point in the last three league matches, the team of trainer Fatih Terim on Saturday was 1-3 too strong for Göztepe SK, the current number ten in Turkey. All goals from Cim Bom were credited to Kerem Aktürkoglu, who became the first Turkish player to have a hat-trick for Galatasaray in the Süper Lig since Yasin Öztekin against Gaziantepspor in December 2016.

Fousseni Diabaté made perhaps the best goal of his career after nine minutes of play. After a cross from Dzenan Burekovic from the left, he got a lot of freedom at the penalty spot and chased the ball with a beautiful bicycle kick into the right intersection. Goalkeeper Fernando Muslera remained transfixed: 1-0. Galatasaray, however, still provided peace for the turnaround.

Galatasaray, where Ryan Babel and Ryan Donk were missing due to a suspension, played the ball carefully around and after a smart through pass from Halil Dervisoglu, Aktürkoglu shot the ball diagonally and via the left post into the goal behind Irfan Egribayat: 1-1. A few minutes before half time, his second followed when he again successfully aimed the ball in the left corner on the right side of the penalty area: 1-2. With a striking penalty in the second half, Aktürkoglu completed his hat trick. Dervisoglu was only too happy to go to the ground after a tap on his foot, after which referee Firat Aydinus pointed to the spot: 1-3.

With the victory, Galatasaray is six points behind leader and fellow townsman Besiktas: 65 to 71. Arch-rival Fenerbahçe is on 66 points. The first two places are good for a place in the preliminary rounds of the Champions League. For the numbers three and four, there is no more than the Conference League. The top three of Turkey has yet to complete seven matches.
