Galatasaray booked the second league win in a row on Sunday. Cimbom, that was enough for the three points against low-flyer Altay with a goal from Kerem Aktürkoglu. With the win, Galatasaray rises from twelfth to eleventh place in the Süper Lig, bringing the left row back into view after a long time. The club was last there twelve rounds ago.
With Ryan Babel and Patrick van Aanholt at the start signal, Galatasaray got off to a flying start. Aktürkoglu received the ball from Berkan Kutlu on the edge of the penalty area, sprinted past his direct opponent. and lashed out with his wrong left leg: 1-0. It seemed only a matter of time before Galatasaray would increase the margin, but miraculously the number seventeen of the Süper Lig managed to limit the damage to one goal in the first half. Attempts by Bafetimbi Gomis (twice), Marcao and Babel only came to nothing.
Altay got off to a better start after the break. Martín Rodríguez fired on Fernando Muslera from afar, but the Uruguayan closing post managed to keep his goal clean with a nice reflex.
Galatasaray lost it and managed to create little in the second act. Muslera turned out to be the hero of Istanbul. Five minutes before the end, the goalie had a nice answer to a low shot by Leandro Kappel; well into stoppage time, he once again undertook Rodríguez’s scoring.
With blood, sweat and tears, Galatasaray held on and can look slightly up again in the Süper Lig.
