Leicester City will soon be saying goodbye to Lee Congerton. The so-called recruitment chief is about to the Foxes exchange for Atalanta. The Leicester Mercury Frank Arnesen, technical director of Feyenoord, mentions as one of the five possible candidates for the succession of Congerton.

Congerton is a confidant of manager Brendan Rodgers and previously worked with the Northern Irishman at Chelsea, Liverpool, Celtic and Leicester City. The Leicester Mercury writes that Arnesen and Rodgers also have a strong bond, which dates back to their time together at Chelsea. Arnesen was with the Blues head of youth academy and later sporting director during the time Rodgers was in charge of Chelsea’s Under-18s and reserves.

The link with Rodgers could entice Arnesen to work at Leicester City as a , according to the local newspaper recruitment chief, even if it means that in terms of function is taking a step backwards compared to Feyenoord. The current contract of the technical director in South Rotterdam is coming to an end and both parties will discuss a longer cooperation after the winter break. Feyenoord Transfermarkt previously reported that Marcel Brands – unemployed since his departure from Everton – will come into the picture if Arnesen does not extend his contract.

“Because I speak Spanish, I have a good connection and understanding with Frank Arnesen,” Rodgers said earlier about the bond with Arnesen, who speaks Spanish through his time as a player at Valencia. In addition to Arnesen, four other candidates are mentioned: Rob Mackenzie (head of recruitment from Aston Villa), Steve Walsh (less club, but associated with the American Charlotte FC as an advisor), Gretar Steinsson (former AZ defender, recently left as head of scouting for Everton) and Andy Scott (recently left as head of scouting for Swansea City) .
