Latest update:

Francesco Farioli will not say on Wednesday whether he will choose Remko Pasveer (40) or Diant Ramaj (22) under the bar for Ajax against FK Vojvodina. The Italian coach says he will first discuss his choice with the goalkeepers themselves and indicates that he will only do this for each line on the match day.

Cristian Willaert from ESPN was the first to ask Farioli a few questions on Wednesday. The journalist naturally started with the much-discussed goalkeeping issue in Amsterdam. “Who is going to be number one? Let me have the chance to speak to the players themselves when I give the line-up for all positions. Let that be clear.”

Farioli did want to elaborate on what he finds important in a goalkeeper. “My demands are clear. I want players who are brave and dare to play football. They must want to play the way I want to play and according to the identity of Ajax. In addition, they must be physically and mentally capable of doing that.”

Farioli did not want to say anything about the differences between Pasveer and Ramaj. “This is not an interesting topic to discuss today. As I said, we are here to talk about the match against Vojvodina, not to do a goalkeeping analysis. About weaknesses, strengths… Let's keep the focus on tomorrow's match.”

On Tuesday, journalist Tim van Duijn from Football International with the scoop that Ramaj has to seriously fear for his starting spot at Ajax. Remko Pasveer seems to have an advantage over the German as first keeper under new coach Francesco Farioli.

Ramaj is contracted to the Johan Cruijff ArenA until mid-2028. Transfermarkt estimates his current market value at 18 million euros. Last summer, then technical director Sven Mislintat took over the young goalie from Eintracht Frankfurt for around 5 million euros.

Ramaj had a difficult start at Ajax, but kept himself in the starting line-up during the past season. In his first 31 matches under the bar at Ajax, the goalie only managed to keep a clean sheet 5 times. In total, Ramaj had to concede 51 goals.
