Issam El Maach can breathe new life into his career at Vitesse, reports the Gelderlander. The regional daily reports on Wednesday evening that the 21-year-old goalkeeper will be on trial in Arnhem from next week. The Moroccan youth international has been without a club since his departure from Ajax last year.

El Maach is no stranger to Vitesse. The closing post played in the youth of RKSV MULO, VVV-Venlo and Vitesse before he left for Ajax in mid-2017. At the time, he signed for two seasons, with an option for another year, and finally made his debut for Young Ajax in the Kitchen Champion Division in January 2019.

In the end, El Maach did not get further than four appearances for Young Ajax and his contract was not extended last summer. He did not find a new club either. Vitesse is looking to strengthen the goalkeepers’ guild for next season. Remko Pasveer will leave for Ajax free of transfer this summer and the contract of Bilal Bayazit, the third goalkeeper in the selection, will not be extended.

Vitesse is associated with, among others, Jay Gorter (Go Ahead Eagles) and Eloy Room (Columbus Crew). Room also has a history in GelreDome, while Gorter is in the picture at many clubs thanks to an excellent season. Jeroen Houwen, who has a contract until mid-2023, is Pasveer’s stand-in and undoubtedly awaits the developments surrounding Vitesse’s search in excitement.
