Daley Blind does not rule out ending his career at Ajax. The 31-year-old defender-cum-midfielder still looks back with great satisfaction at the decision to return to Amsterdam in 2018, after being under contract with Manchester United for four years. Blind’s current contract with Ajax will continue until mid-2023.

“If I keep having fun like this, I see no reason to ever go anywhere else. I do not rule out ending my career at Ajax after I have played football for years. Because I sure want to. I feel fit”, says Blind in an interview with The Telegraph. Blind does not want to commit to the fact that he no longer leaves Ajax. “Whether I ever go abroad again depends on which club reports and many more facets. For the time being I am very happy at Ajax and certainly not looking for another challenge, abroad.”

“I keep trying to outdo my father, because winning trophies remains the challenge and is why you play football,” muses Blind. Father Danny won the Champions League, the World Cup, the UEFA Cup, the European Cup II and the European Super Cup with Ajax. “I realize that I have already experienced many beautiful moments, but during your career you are not really busy with your trophy cabinet. I think it will come after that. The ‘battle’ between my father and me will continue for a while.”

“In quotes, because of course it’s not a real fight. I think he is especially proud, as I am of him. They are great starting points during a dinner party”, continues Blind. He has so far won six national titles with Ajax and twice the TOTO KNVB Cup. “When I started at Ajax, I didn’t expect to be able to achieve so much in football. But I started chasing my dreams and it makes me proud and happy that I have been able to steal certain records (more often champion and more internationals, ed.) from my father.”
