The KNVB has knocked on Peter Bosz’s door after the departure of Ronald Koeman as national coach of the Dutch national team. Jack van Gelder reports Sunday evening to Rondo that Bosz was indeed interested in the role of national coach, but that the Bayer Leverkusen trainer was not asked the right question. According to Van Gelder, Bosz was only asked whether he was available, and because he is currently employed by Leverkusen, he answered ‘no’.

Van Gelder claims to have spoken to Bosz himself. “He literally said to me: I’ve been asked if I’m available as coach of the Dutch national team. No, because I’m with Leverkusen. But had they asked him if he wanted to become a national coach, he would probably have said yes. In other words: they would have had to pay a ransom, but they didn’t ask at all,” says Van Gelder, who calls the situation ‘remarkable’.

Youri Mulder thinks it’s a strange story: “If he says he’s not available, then you can assume that he can’t,” says the former footballer. Van Gelder responds: “No, because he’s not available because he’s permanently employed somewhere”. Mulder describes it as a ‘language thing’. “No, that’s not a language thing,” says Van Gelder. The presenter reports that Bosz was not asked whether he wanted to become a national coach “So they should have continued asking: so you’re not available, but you’d like to?. Then he could have said: I’m not available, but I’d like to be. What’s that?” reacts Mulder.

Frank de Boer is expected to be the new national coach. The clubless coach is in talks with the KNVB and according to Van Gelder he will be presented next week. “I think they have taken the easiest route with Frank de Boer. He is the only one who is free. They did not ask Louis van Gaal for the reason that he might be too difficult.” Gullit says he hears other stories. “That’s not true what you say. I also hear they wanted Henk ten Cate.”
