Foeke Booy was discharged faster than expected from the rehabilitation center where he stayed since last month, SC Cambuur reports on Wednesday evening. The technical manager of the Frisian club was struck exactly a month ago by a cerebral infarction, after which he was transferred to a rehabilitation center to work on his recovery. He was forced to give up his duties at Cambuur and Booy will take some time to fully recover.

“In the first place, I am extremely grateful for the excellent medical care and the many heartwarming reactions I have received,” says Booy in an update on the Cambuur website. “That has done both me and my family a lot of good and we feel enormously supported by everyone at and around Cambuur, all people from football, family, friends and acquaintances. It is impossible to thank everyone personally, but know that We really appreciate all messages and attentions.”

“As far as my recovery is concerned, the doctors and I are optimistic. For the time being, I will take my time and take it easy, so that I can eventually continue to build on the wonderful club that we already are,” concludes Booy. Due to Booy’s absence, financial director Gerald van den Belt takes care of the technical matters. The 59-year-old Booy has been working at Cambuur as technical director since January 2018. Previously, he worked as a technical director and youth, assistant and head coach at FC Utrecht and was in charge of Al-Nasr, Sparta Rotterdam, Cercle Brugge and Go Ahead Eagles.

With Booy at the helm as technical manager, Cambuur managed to return to the Eredivisie as champion of the Kitchen Champion Division last season. The club from Leeuwarden was already heading for promotion a year earlier, but due to the corona pandemic, the competitions were ended in March and promotion and relegation ended. In the past year, the formation of trainer Henk de Jong managed to return to the highest level.
