It seems only a matter of time before Atlético Madrid announces the arrival of Robin Le Normand. Fabrizio Romano reports on Thursday that clubs and player have been in agreement for some time about the transfer from Real Sociedad, which reportedly involves around thirty million euros.

Even before the start of the European Championship, an agreement between Atlético and Sociedad seemed imminent. The Colchoneros are urgently looking for new centre-backs, now that Caglar Sôyüncü (Fenerbahçe), Gabriel Paulista (Besiktas) and Mario Hermoso (unknown) have left the club.

Le Normand (27) is seen as the ideal reinforcement. The Spanish international has proven his reliability as a man-marker for five seasons in a row, which also earned him a European Championship selection.

In fact, he was even a regular in the team that won the European title. Le Normand played in six matches: he was absent in the semi-final due to too many yellow cards.

Le Normand also started in the final against England. The French-born defender conceded one goal in the final, which was won 2-1.

Le Normand was trained by Stade Brest, but only played one match for that club in the first team. In 2016 he made the switch to Sociedad, where he spent three years in the reserve team. Since 2019, Le Normand has been an indispensable part of the starting line-up of Txuri-Urdin. With the French Spaniard in the center, Sociedad immediately managed to win the Copa del Rey in 2019/20.

In the Cívitas Metropolitano, Le Normand will have to compete with José María Giménez, Stefan Savic and Axel Witsel, among others. César Azpilicueta is also still regularly used as a centre-back.
