Marco Reus is close to completing his free transfer to Los Angeles Galaxy, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that the “final details” are currently being worked out before the German signs a deal on the west coast of the United States.

Reus announced at the end of last season that he would leave Borussia Dortmund after twelve years. Reus, who never managed to become champion with his club, hoped to say goodbye with the Champions League win. That was not to be, despite a good match by the Germans, as Real Madrid won 0-2 at Wembley.

In early June I knew The Athletic already reported that negotiations were ongoing between LA Galaxy and Reus camp. At the same time, nothing was certain, as the now 35-year-old attacking midfielder also received interest from Saudi Arabia and Europe.

In any case, it doesn't look like Reus is going to become a top earner. The Athletic reported that LA Galaxy no longer has room for a Designated Playera player who is allowed to earn above the salary cap.

However, Reus can look forward to a salary of around 1.7 million dollars. That will be less than what he could earn in Saudi Arabia and probably also Europe, but nevertheless the technically gifted Reus chooses to continue his career in the United States.

Reus eventually played 429 matches for Dortmund, the club that acquired him from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2012 for around seventeen million euros. In those 429 matches, Reus scored 170 goals and provided 131 assists.

Reus has been linked with a move away from Signal Iduna Park on several occasions over the years. However, the 48-time Germany international has always chosen to remain loyal to Dortmund, which has only increased his hero status there.
