Feyenoord is currently unable to take over Joey Veerman from SC Heerenveen. Feyenoord Transfermarkt reports on Wednesday that a first offer for the 23-year-old midfielder has been swept off the table by the Frisians. Nothing is known yet about the amount of the offer from Rotterdam. However, Feyenoord is not giving up and a second offer has now been submitted to the board of Heerenveen, it sounds like.

According to Heerenveen, the amount that Feyenoord has left for Veerman with the opening bid is too low. A better offer will have to come from De Kuip if the Frisians are to start thinking about an outgoing transfer of the midfielder. Feyenoord’s interest in Veerman, which is fixed in the Abe Lenstra Stadium until mid-2024, has been around for some time. It is hoped that a final agreement can be reached in January, when the transfer market opens again.

That Feyenoord is seriously in the market for Veerman was recently confirmed once again by agent Fulco van Kooperen. The representative talked to The Telegraph an important nuance. “If they start asking Feyenoord eight million, it will be difficult. Just like for AZ, which also had extensive interest. Heerenveen also knows that, because they did not receive the amounts. That is why he did not leave last summer. But now he has to go and they know that too. That’s why Heerenveen wants to participate in a transfer. But for how much?”

According to Van Kooperen, Heerenveen is aiming for a resale percentage in a possible deal with Feyenoord. “I think: the higher the amount, the lower the resale. And vice versa. AZ was around five million and twenty percent resale last summer. Heerenveen did not do that, because they could not get anyone. That argument no longer holds: now they know in time.” In Van Kooperen’s view, what Veerman wants is more than clear. “Joey wants to take a step anyway. I think Feyenoord suits him very well.”

Feyenoord has to ‘puzzle’ to get Joey Veerman: ‘The situation is simple’

Ferry de Haan, technical manager of Heerenveen, remains calm under the flow of rumors surrounding Veerman. “The situation is simple”, it sounded just before Christmas in conversation with the General Newspaper. “Feyenoord has reported again. It is certainly not the case that we have to sell Veerman to keep our heads above water. But Heerenveen is a club that has to rely on buying and selling.” Van Kooperen finds an amount of ‘around six million euros’ plus a resale percentage that is in line with the market for his client.

It General Newspaper pointed out last week that Feyenoord does not have six million euros in cash, but also hopes that the amount will be available soon or that Heerenveen is currently satisfied with less through a construction. Technical director Frank Arnesen will therefore have to sell players to attract Veerman or come up with a construction with, for example, a large resale percentage to convince De Haan. It cannot be ruled out that the arrival of Veerman can be made possible with the help of investors. After all, the club from Rotterdam seems to be a serious title candidate, with four points less than leader PSV, and also winters in Europe.
