Feyenoord joined the last four in the TOTO KNVB Cup on Wednesday evening. The team from Rotterdam made no impression on a visit to sc Heerenveen and got away well when the Frisians demanded a penalty after the break. Santiago Giménez capitalized on one of Feyenoord’s few opportunities in the eightieth minute: 0-1.

Slot made no changes at Feyenoord compared to last Sunday’s Eredivisie match won with Fortuna Sittard (2-4). This meant that Javairô Dilrosun again started as number 10, while goalkeeper Timon Wellenreuther again took the place of the injured Justin Bijlow. The first keeper, Andries Noppert, was also eliminated at Heerenveen, so that Xavier Mous defended the goal. Thom Haye called in sick, so Anas Tahiri started.

Feyenoord played an extremely difficult first half, in which Heerenveen had the best chances. Sydney van Hooijdonk messed up a good shooting chance of sixteen meters in the initial phase and moments later shot the ball into the side netting with an even greater possibility of diagonally in front of the goal. Dilrosun made Feyenoord’s only serious attempt before the break. The number 10 had a concealed shot from seventeen meters in the house, which went just wide.

In the second half, too, the danger initially came mainly from Heerenveen. Ché Nunnely fired in a volley after a half-headed corner kick. Wellenreuther saved with great difficulty and plucked the ball out of the air before Van Hooijdonk thought he would take advantage. In the 69th minute, Heerenveen demanded a penalty, when Osame Sahraoui was grabbed by Neraysho Kasanwirjo in the penalty area. Pol van Boekel, however, waved it off. Feyenoord seized its moment when Heerenveen’s defense was not paying attention in the ninetieth minute. Alireza Jahanbakhsh played the ball to Danilo, who played directly to Giménez from the center. The striker was able to shoot in in complete freedom: 0-1.
