Latest update:

Feyenoord will strengthen itself in the short term with Jeyland Mitchell. The Costa Rican defender comes from LD Alajuelense, which according to Fabrizio Romano will keep 2.5 million euros from the deal.

According to the Italian transfer guru, the medical will take place before the weekend. Mitchell will land in Rotterdam on Thursday to finalize the deal. Reportedly, he could also choose Atlético Madrid, but Feyenoord will take him.

Mitchell is a nineteen-year-old defender who has already played seven international matches for Costa Rica. The right-footer is still contracted to his club LD Alajuelense until mid-2027, but that contract will be bought out by Feyenoord.

The centre-back has only played twelve official matches for the first team of his current employer and previously played for Guanacasteca and Municipal Liberia. Mitchell has therefore never played for a club outside his homeland.

In recent weeks, the 1.87-meter tall man-marker has been active with Costa Rica at the Copa América, where he competed against Brazil (0-0), Colombia (3-0 loss) and Paraguay (2-1 win).

Despite the four points, Costa Rica was eliminated from the final round. Mitchell was a starter in all three group stage matches, conceded four goals and could not help his team reach the knockout stage. He did make a big impression in the match against Brazil, when he made Vinicius Júnior almost harmless.

In Rotterdam-South, the Costa Rican international will have to compete with Gernot Trauner, Thomas Beelen, Lutsharel Geertruida and Dávid Hancko, although there is a possibility that the last two from that list will make a transfer this summer.
