Feyenoord and Ajax have created a first in Dutch women’s football: for the first time, a transfer fee has been paid to another club. According to de Volkskrant the Rotterdammers have put a transfer fee on the table for the transfer of Samantha van Diemen. The nineteen-year-old youth international had a permanent contract with Ajax.

At the request of Feyenoord, which is playing in the Pure Energie Eredivisie Women for the first time this season, the clubs have agreed that the transfer fee would remain secret. The clubs do not want to comment on the transfer to the newspaper, but anonymous sources confirm that Feyenoord has paid a transfer fee for Van Diemen. It would be an amount ‘far below 10,000 euros’.

It was a matter of principle for Ajax that Feyenoord would pay. Earlier this year, the Amsterdammers saw two talents leave for Rotterdam for free. Feyenoord initially did not want to pay a transfer fee, but had already reached agreement with Van Diemen about the personal conditions. Van Diemen was not happy at Ajax; she was often used as a back, while her favorite position is center back. In addition, she was not sure of a starting place.

Feyenoord would have gone astray because it did not want to abandon Van Diemen. “I will not confirm it, but I will not deny it either,” said Manon Melis, coordinator of women’s football at Feyenoord. de Volkskrant. “We have agreed not to make any announcements about this.” Daphne Koster, Ajax women’s football manager, acknowledges that a player has been paid for this year. The newspaper writes that of all the players that Ajax has left, only Van Diemen had a permanent contract.
