Marcus Pedersen leaves Feyenoord behind. The 23-year-old right back from Norway had no problems during his medical examination at Sassuolo and will be out on loan for the Italian club this season. Sassuolo has also negotiated a purchase option of reportedly eight million euros.

“Assuming the transfer becomes final, I look back with great pleasure on the past two seasons at Feyenoord,” said Pedersen. “The final of the Conference League, the national championship: each of them special achievements that we have achieved together. So I can only look back with pride and gratitude on my time in Rotterdam. And I am curious what the future in Italy will hold for me to take.”

Pedersen has also been mentioned as a possible addition to VfL Wolfsburg and Torino in recent weeks. However, it is Sassuolo who manages to add the young full-back to the squad. Trainer Arne Slot already responded to Pedersen’s departure by bringing Bart Nieuwkoop back to De Kuip. The Feyenoord coach also has Lutsharel Geertruida at his disposal for the right-back position. In Feyenoord’s first league match (0-0 against Fortuna Sittard), Pedersen already started on the bench and Nieuwkoop started from kick-off.

When the latter received a red card, Slot opted remarkably enough to let Thomas Beelen come in, and not Pedersen. With that, a transfer from the back seemed imminent. He was missing in the match selection for the derby with Sparta Rotterdam (2-2). Pedersen, attracted by Sassuolo, was acquired from the Norwegian Molde FK in mid-2021 for two million euros. Pedersen played 88 games (1 goal and 7 assists) during his time at Feyenoord. He leaves Feyenoord with a national title behind his name.
