Feyenoord has not succeeded in pushing Vitesse from the coveted fourth place. In De Kuip, the subtoppers drew 0-0, so that Vitesse retains a two-point lead over Feyenoord. The number four will enter the third heat of the Conference League next season; the number five has to enter the play-offs. Fifteen minutes before the end, Steven Berghuis received the first direct red card from his career after a hefty charge.

Steven Berghuis should actually have broken open the squatter after 26 minutes. The captain of Feyenoord was reached at the far post by Marcos Senesi, who skilfully bounced the ball over Alois Oroz and delivered a tight cross. Berghuis did not hit the ball well with his wrong right foot. Nevertheless, Feyenoord could not complain about the 0-0 score at half time. The home team rarely convinced in possession and thanked Justin Bijlow for a number of great saves in the first half. The keeper parried a bet by Maximilian Wittek in the eleventh minute and then was an obstacle for Loïs Openda, who tried unsuccessfully to score from multiple angles.

The first half was also dominated by hard play and fouls. Tomás Hájek received a yellow card in the third minute for a stupid foul on Mark Diemers, after which Jens Toornstra received a yellow card for preventing an Arnhem counter. In the last few minutes of the first half, Vitesse received no fewer than three prints: Wittek, Riechedly Bazoer and Sondre Tronstad all went into the book and are all suspended for the next league game, at home against PEC Zwolle on Saturday. In the second half, Remko Pasveer quickly turned a bet from Berghuis. Just like in the first half, Feyenoord started fiercely, but this time the home team managed to maintain the predominance longer.

Halfway through the second half, Orkun Kökçü had a good shot chance from about fifteen meters, but he shot over. Pasveer then made a nice save on a bet by Bryan Linssen, who was replaced shortly afterwards by Róbert Bozeník. Feyenoord had to continue with ten men fifteen minutes before the end. Berghuis committed a nasty, ill-timed tackle on Wittek, who had to be substituted after the foul. A direct red card remained for Berghuis, the first in his career; he was already sent away three times in his career after two yellow cards. Remarkably, Feyenoord retained the initiative with ten men, but no more goals were scored in De Kuip.
