Leroy Fer seems to have definitely played his last game for Feyenoord. Technical director Frank Arnesen confirms Tuesday The Telegraph that the midfielder has been given permission to travel to Turkey to complete the transfer to Alanyaspor. According to the General Newspaper Fer signs a contract with the Turkish club for two seasons, with the option of a third year. In addition, he is allowed to leave Feyenoord with a transfer-free status despite an ongoing contract.

Feyenoord Transfermarkt manages to reveal some details from the contract with Alanyaspor. Fer earns a net annual salary of 650,000 euros and if the club becomes champion or finishes second, a bonus of 500,000 euros follows. He is no longer part of Feyenoord’s match selection for the second meeting with the Swedish IF Elfsborg on Thursday evening. The selection of Arne Slot, who saw his team win 5-0 last week in the first leg, will travel to Sweden on Wednesday. Fer is allowed to leave Feyenoord because of the competition that has arrived. Slot prefers Guus Til and Fredrik Aursnes in midfield, while the arrival of Gernot Trauner seems to have left him no place in the rear.

The now 31-year-old midfielder may remain at Feyenoord despite his reserve role, as Slot greatly appreciates his leadership qualities. “It is great how, while he is on the bench, he coaches, fires up the players and wants to help the team,” the Feyenoord coach recently handed out a big compliment to Fer. “For that reason alone you might want to let him come in sometimes.” Nevertheless, Fer leaves Rotterdam South a year before the expiry of his contract.

Fer played for Feyenoord between 2007 and 2011 and returned to the Rotterdam club in mid-2019. In the meantime, the midfielder was under contract with successively FC Twente, Norwich City, Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City. Fer came in the shirt of Feyenoord to 193 games (21 goals and 17 assists). In 2008 he won the TOTO KNVB Cup with Feyenoord.

Derksen, who brought out the news about the transfer to Alanyaspor in Veronica Inside, on Monday evening immediately questioned Fer’s imminent transfer to Turkey. “Then I think: what a shame for that club, that they spend money on that, because it has nothing more to bring.” Table mate Valentijn Driessen cynically added: “They will not have shown a video of Elfsborg when he came in”, he refers to Fer’s brief substitute last Thursday.
