Feyenoord has sounded out the entourage around Kieran McKenna for the open coaching vacancy in De Kuip, reports Martijn Krabbendam from Football International. However, the Rotterdam team was rejected by the 38-year-old manager of Premier League promotion candidate Ipswich Town: McKenna would rather stay in England. Graham Potter is also still a serious candidate, it sounds.

General and technical director Dennis te Kloese is busy looking for a replacement for Arne Slot, who left for Liverpool. The policy man said earlier this week that the foundation for this had already been laid some time ago, as the club knew what could happen around Slot.

Krabbendam now reports that Feyenoord sounded out the entourage around McKenna to see how he would feel about a move to South Rotterdam. The successful coach, who brought Ipswich from the third level of England to the Premier League, has announced that he would prefer to stay in England.

“There would also have been contact with Thorsten Fink,” writes Krabbendam. “This German trainer made an impression with Sint-Truiden. Nuri Sahin is also on the list, currently assistant coach at Champions League finalist Borussia Dortmund.” Feyenoord is looking for 'craftsmanship' and 'experience', or so it sounds.

Potter is therefore still a serious candidate for Feyenoord. The English manager was recently in discussions with Ajax about a possible employment relationship, but that came to nothing. The 49-year-old Potter has been without a club since his dismissal from Chelsea in April 2023.

Feyenoord will start preparing for the new season at the beginning of July. Practices include against FC Dordrecht, Club Brugge and Benfica. The Johan Cruijff Shield against PSV is scheduled for August 4.
