Uros Spajic can call himself an official Feyenoord player. The 27-year-old centre defender from Serbia passed the medical examination at De Kuip without any problems and then signed a one-year lease. Spajic comes from the Russian FK Krasnodar, where his commitment will continue for three more seasons.

Spajic have long been a fixture in FK Krasnodar’s defence, where former Feyenoord player Tonny Vilhena is also under contract. An ankle injury and the coronary crisis meant that Feyenoord’s hired mandeader was not yet in action in 2020. Spajic played for Anderlecht, Toulouse and Rode Ster Belgrade earlier in his career. In addition, eleven internationals stand behind his name on behalf of the Serbian national team.

Due to the prolonged absence of Sven van Beek, trainer Dick Advocaat had been looking for a new defensive force for some time. The re-hire of Trabzonspor defender Edgar Ié turned out to be unfeasible, which shifted attention to Spajic. Spajic will be able to make his official debut at De Kuip on Sunday in Feyenoord’s home game with FC Twente. Lawyer previously welcomed Mark Diemers, Bryan Linssen, Christian Conteh, Francesco Antonucci, João Carlos Teixeira in Rotterdam-Zuid.

“We know we wanted to add another central defender to the selection. With the arrival of Uros Spajic we have succeeded and we are not only adding an extra option, but also extra experience at the back of the group”, says technical director Frank Arnesen. As soon as the paperwork for his work and residence permit has been completed, the mercenary can join the selection of Lawyer.

Feyenoord must have the nerve to say they are champions with such a squad.
