Latest update:

Feyenoord has not yet given up hope of attracting Luciano Rodríguez. The Rotterdam team attempted to strengthen themselves with the Uruguayan during the winter transfer period, but due to time constraints a deal did not get off the ground. Nevertheless, Feyenoord is still in a 'negotiation process' and the club hopes to welcome Rodríguez next summer, according to reports 1908.nl. “In the case of Rodriguez, the transfer could be completed sooner than expected, for example in a few days or a few weeks.”

The possible transfer of the right winger is a long-term one. Already in mid-January, Uruguay first reported Rotterdam's interest in Rodríguez, who was supposed to provide Feyenoord with new impetus on the flanks.

In the last days of January, the deal became concrete and the reigning national champions submitted several offers to Rodríguez's employer, Liverpool Montevideo. Trainer Arne Slot also confirmed the interest. “He is a player with great kicking technique in standard situations and one who can score a goal out of nowhere,” he said. ESPN.

Ultimately, Feyenoord even reached an agreement in principle with Rodríguez himself. This gave the current number two in the Eredivisie an advantage over the Argentinian River Plate, which was also hunting for the attacker's signature. Nevertheless, a transfer did not get off the ground, as Feyenoord was unable to reach an agreement with Liverpool Montevideo.

This may yet change in the coming period, as the Stadium club is still negotiating a transfer for Rodríguez.

Feyenoord is aiming for a summer arrival for the winger, but hopes to reach a deal with Liverpool Montevideo well before then. “Feyenoord is still very close to a deal, which now requires a little more patience,” writes 1908.nl. “In the case of Rodriguez, the transfer could be completed sooner than expected, for example in a few days or a few weeks.”

“Feyenoord is still concrete for Rodríguez. The club will remain so as long as the negotiation process is ongoing. According to South American media, River Plate has dropped out for the time being, while Rodríguez's personal agreement with the Rotterdam team remains in place.”
