Latest update:

Luca Dahl Tomasson will play for Feyenoord for the next two seasons, the Rotterdam team announced through official channels. The sixteen-year-old midfielder, son of Jon Dahl Tomasson, comes from Blackburn Rovers. At Varkenoord, Tomasson junior joins Feyenoord Under 17.

On Monday, Tomasson junior signed his name in the Boardroom of De Kuip. “Feyenoord is a special club for me in many ways. As a little boy I regularly came to De Kuip to watch my father's matches. The fact that I can now follow in his footsteps makes it extra special for me,” the teenager said via the Feyenoord club website.

Tomasson junior is looking forward to working at Feyenoord. “I can't wait to play in the Feyenoord shirt myself and show what I have to offer.” Before his time at Blackburn Rovers, Copenhagen-born Tomasson was active in the youth academy of Excelsior Rotterdam.

With his transfer to Feyenoord, Tomasson junior follows in his father's footsteps. The now 47-year-old Jon Dahl Tomasson, national coach of Sweden, made waves at Feyenoord between 1998 and 2002. Tomasson then returned in 2008 to remain active for another three years Stadium club.

In total, Tomasson played 206 matches for Feyenoord, in which he scored 92 goals and 24 assists. With the Rotterdam team he won the national title (1998/99), Johan Cruijff Shield (2000) and UEFA Cup (2001/02). Because of the latter achievement, Tomasson will forever be a club icon.

Football sons

Tomasson junior will certainly not be the only 'son of' in the Feyenoord Academy. Aiden Kuijt, son of club icon Dirk, scored a hat-trick last season on behalf of the Under 13s in the mini-Classic against the peers of arch-rival Ajax (8-0). Dani Slory (Feyenoord Under 17) and Jaden Slory (Feyenoord Under 21) are the sons of former Dutch international Andwélé.

Shaqueel van Persie (son of Robin) now plays in Feyenoord Under 18. Matthew Amoah junior, son of the former cult striker of NAC Breda, plays in Feyenoord Under 16. Noah Pusic, son of former assistant Marino, is leaving the Rotterdam team.

Next season, in addition to Tomasson junior, several 'football sons' will be added. Jaymin Sarpong, son of former Ajax player Jeffrey, will join Feyenoord Under 8. Dani Calabro, son of former Eredivisie striker Sandro Calabro, will play in Feyenoord Under 11.
