Feyenoord also continued the good series of recent weeks in the Eredivisie on Sunday. Arne Slot’s team had some trouble with Go Ahead Eagles at home, but two goals from Bryan Linssen in the second half were decisive and meant the sixth official victory in a row: 2-0. The club from Rotterdam has an excellent series in the Eredivisie against promoted teams: six victories and a draw in the last seven matches, with a goal average of 3.3 (23 goals in total. Feyenoord will play the reunion with IF Elfsborg in the Conference on Thursday). League and close the month of August in a week with an away match against FC Utrecht.

After a few minutes Feyenoord already had to deal with a downer. Marcos Senesi sat down on the floor because his thigh was hurting too much. The central defender had to be replaced by Wouter Burger. Slot’s team made the game, but there were no real great opportunities as the first half progressed. Attempts by Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Jens Toornstra were harmless or were blocked. Only in the 29th minute was Feyenoord close to 1-0: goalkeeper Warner Hahn reacted well to a header from Burger.

Feyenoord reported more and more often for Hahn’s goal, but also got away well after 38 minutes. Luuk Brouwers turned away from two men with one action, crossed the field, got the ball back from Martijn Berden and saw his effort blocked by Marcus Pedersen with a quick foot movement. One minute, Go Ahead screamed for a penalty after a handball by Jahanbakhsh, but referee Rob Dieperink and the VAR did not intervene.

The first chance in the second half was for Feyenoord. The released Guus Til put the ball on target with a volley, but Hahn again got in the way and saved the visitors with a clever save. However, it was typical of the proportions on the pitch. Slot’s team kept pushing, but either Hahn or the lack of precision in the finish stood in the way of an opening goal. After an hour of play, the time had finally come: Hahn didn’t look good this time with a hard and low shot from Luis Sinisterra and the rebound was a prey for Linssen.

Jahanbakhsh was replaced a few minutes later by Fredrik Aursnes, as a result of which Toornstra moved one line forward. Fifteen minutes before the end, the 2-0 seemed to appear on the scoreboard. However, Pedersen aimed the ball straight at Hahn and this attempt turned the ex-goalkeeper of Feyenoord, among others, well. With four substitutions in ten minutes, Go Ahead was clearly looking for a draw in the final phase, but that also offered Feyenoord more space forward.

Slot’s team made it 2-0 two minutes before the end. Linssen got the ball just a little over the halfway line, stormed towards the goal and with a devastating swipe he aimed the ball into the corner. It was again goals 97 and 98 by Linssen in the Eredivisie on Sunday. It was close to number 99 as well, but the post prevented a wider defeat for Go Ahead. Burger also did not make it to the end of the game; he was injured and had to be replaced by Ramon Hendriks.
