Feyenoord averted a defeat at RKC Waalwijk on Sunday. Dick Advocaat’s team fell behind twice, but took a run in the Mandemakers Stadium: 2-2. As a result, Feyenoord will remain unbeaten in the Eredivisie for a full year. The last defeat dates from October 27, 2019 and Feyenoord will not play in the Eredivisie again until November 1. Only between 1978 and 1979 did the club remain unbeaten for so long: then Feyenoord was not beaten for 434 days.

The away match against RKC is a traditionally difficult poster for Feyenoord: of the past 23 editions, Feyenoord won only 8 and lost the same number. Dick Advocaat chose the same starting eleven as in the away match against Dinamo Zagreb (0-0) in the Europa League on Thursday. Despite the fact that Feyenoord had the European match in its legs, the visitors looked fresh in the first half. Steven Berghuis created a threat in the first ten minutes with two attempts from a distance. After fifteen minutes, a lob by Bryan Linssen ended on the crossbar, although there was talk of offside.

After half an hour, Berghuis prepared a chance from João Carlos Teixeira with a good pass; the summer gain just missed. It was one of his last actions, as Teixeira had to give up after a foul by Ahmed Touba. He was replaced by Nicolai Jörgensen. The Dane would not finish the match, because after an hour he was taken to the side due to complaints to the groin. However, his last move was worth gold. After all, Jörgensen scored: he was reached by Orkun Kökcü just before the goal and hit the post before hitting hard in the rebound.

Jörgensen thus took care of the 1-1, because shortly after the break, RKC surprisingly took the lead. Feyenoord let Cyril Ngonge make the necessary meters, before he found the top corner beautiful from about eighteen meters. After Feyenoord had come to the same level, an open match arose. Mark Diemers ran into keeper Kostas Lamprou and Ola John was close to scoring twice before the RKC winger struck by pulling in and finding the short corner. Six minutes before the end, Ridgeciano Haps determined the final score with a nice, curving shot into the far corner: 2-2.
