Feyenoord qualified for the last preliminary round of the Conference League on Thursday evening. A week after the 0-3 win in the first game against FC Luzern, the team of trainer Arne Slot was also too strong in the reunion with the Swiss with 3-0. That means that Feyenoord is still two games away from the main tournament of the Conference League and will have to deal with IF Elfsborg from next week. Although the Swedes did not go further than 1-1 at home against Velez Mostar, they won 1-4 in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday evening.

Feyenoord was already with one and a half legs in the next round after the first game and also in the first 45 minutes in De Kuip it became clear that FC Luzern was not able to provide a shock effect. Slot’s team finished the game and took the lead after nine minutes. Luis Sinisterra put Alireza Jahanbakhsh away, after which the Iranian made his first in the shirt of the Rotterdam team: 1-0. Feyenoord made a frivolous impression, looked for more goals and had a view of this via Bryan Linssen and especially Guus Til.

After just over half an hour of play, Jahanbakhsh doubled the winning margin. After a good ball conquest by Jens Toornstra, the attacker took a strong shot and shot the ball into the goal again: 2-0. However, the man of the two goals immediately grabbed his groin and a few minutes before half-time he had no choice but to be substituted by Robert Bozeník. The 3-0 remained in the air until the last seconds before the break, but Til was unable to get the ball into the goal after a nice pass from Orkun Kökçü.

Within three minutes, the 32,000 spectators, including Fredrik Aursnes, who was not yet eligible to play, were cheering again. Sinisterra was given the space and then sent the ball to the far corner: 3-0. The large lead offered Slot the opportunity to give some players a rest towards the first league match of the season, next Sunday against Willem II. Tyrell Malacia was replaced by Ridgeciano Haps and Lennard Hartjes made his debut replacing Kökcü.

It was not a good evening for Jordy Wehrmann when he returned to De Kuip, but after his substitution in the 67th minute, the FC Luzern midfielder did receive applause from the Feyenoord fans. Fifteen minutes before the end, Til, who was visibly disappointed by the lack of a goal, and Sinisterra made way for Naoufal Bannis and debutant Antoni Milambo. The sixteen-year-old broke the club record of Georginio Wijnaldum (16 years, 148 days) and is now the youngest player ever in the main squad: 16 years, 131 days. Feyenoord was unable to score more goals. In a week’s time, Slot’s team will play its first game with IF Elfsborg, again in Rotterdam.
