Fenerbahçe barely survived the home game with Antalyaspor in the Süper Lig on Sunday evening. The team of coach Vitor Pereira saved the goals for minutes 89 and 92: 2-0. It is the first time since 2009/10 that a foreign trainer of Fenerbahçe has six points left from the first two competition matches.
In 2009/10 the German Christoph Daum was on the selection of Fenerbahçe, which at the time won 0-2 against Denizlispor and 3-0 against Sivasspor in the first two match days. Pereira’s Fenerbahçe already won 0-1 against Adana Demirspor on the first match day. Since 2009/10, the top club from Istanbul had not been able to win the first two competition matches and not concede a goal.
The joy was great when Miha Zajc got the ball in the goal a minute before the end. After an action by Mbwana Samatta on the left, the ball went through Arda Güler to the Slovenian, who misdirected goalkeeper Ruud Boffin with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. In extra time, Mesut Özil and Enner Valencia countered and the latter was able to finish easily: 2-0.
