Fenerbahçe is considering leaving the Turkish Super Lig. This is clear from a statement shared by the club. An extraordinary general meeting will take place at the Istanbul club on April 2, at which time a possible withdrawal from the competition will be discussed.

Fenerbahçe won on Sunday with a late goal at Trabzonspor (2-3) and then the players on the field were attacked by hooligans from the opposing team.

The total disorder on the field was shown on Turkish television. From several angles you can see how the Fenerbahçe players stormed towards a hooligan who had been one of the first to enter the field. Other players flee quickly.

On Monday, Fenerbahçe announced that an extraordinary general meeting will take place in two weeks. The club also shares the agenda items.

One of them reads: “Evaluating the actions to be taken, including the withdrawal of our first team from the Süper Lig, based on the events that took place in the Süper Lig match played on the evening of March 17, 2024 and the recent events in Turkish football.”

With the latter, the club seems to be referring, among other things, to an incident at the end of last year. Ankaragücü chairman Faruk Koca then knocked referee Halil Umut Meler to the ground. He was subsequently banned for life by the Turkish Football Association.

Turkish justice announced on Sunday evening that a thorough investigation will be conducted into the events after the Trabzonspor – Fenerbahçe match earlier in the evening. On Monday, Minister of the Interior Ali Yerlikaya reported that twelve people had been arrested after the riots.
