Latest update:

Fenerbahçe has postponed the decision on whether to withdraw from the Turkish Super Lig to the next General Members' Meeting, according to a statement from the club. The club is considering withdrawing from the competition following riots that took place after the match against Trabzonspor (2-3 win) on March 17.

Fenerbahçe won on March 17 with a late goal at Trabzonspor (2-3). The players were then attacked on the field by hooligans from the opposing team. The total chaos on the field was broadcast on Turkish television. From several angles you can see how Fenerbahçe players charged at a hooligan who had been one of the first to enter the field. Other players fled quickly.

Jayden Oosterwolde, among others, did not look good in the images. An armed fan stormed onto the pitch and attacked Fenerbahçe players, after which Oosterwolde kicked the man in the head. After this, many more supporters entered the field and the players fled into the changing rooms.

The Monday after this match, Fenerbahçe announced that it would consider withdrawing from the Turkish competition in a General Members' Meeting as a result of the serious incidents in Turkish football. That decision has now been further postponed, according to President Ali Koç. “We are sweeping this option off the table until the next membership meeting in three months!”

However, other concrete matters emerged from the meeting. Fenerbahçe also has doubts about whether it wants to play next Sunday's Turkish Super Cup final against Galatasaray, or whether the promising team will be sent there. “This decision will be made through a vote by the fans,” the club said.

The Super Cup final was canceled at the last minute at the end of December due to disagreements between the two clubs and the Saudi authorities in Riyadh, where the final was to be played. The match is still scheduled for next Sunday, only on neutral ground in the south of Turkey.

Fenerbahçe is also not yet sure that it wants to participate in the cup tournament again next season. “This decision will also be made through a vote by the fans,” the statement read.
