Fenerbahçe suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday evening. On a visit to Istanbul Basaksehir, the team of coach Vitor Pereira already faced a 1-0 deficit at half-time, which was doubled a few minutes before the final signal: 2-0. Fenerbahçe, which collected ten points in the first five matches, drops to fifth place in the ranking; Basaksehir takes the first win of the season and leaves the last position.
Just like in the midweek Europa League meeting with Eintracht Frankfurt (1-1), Ferdi Kadioglu also got a place in the starting eleven this time. Mesut Özil, on the other hand, started from the bench and only came in after the break. Basaksehir opened the scoring in the seventeenth minute. From the axis of the field, Tolga Cigerci passed the ball to Edin Visca, who was posted on the right. The wing attacker then had a hard and low cross in the house to Stefano Okaka. The striker came in for his man and shot in convincingly at the height of the five-meter line: 1-0.
Within twenty minutes after the break, no fewer than four substitutions were made at the Sari Kanaryalar. With Ozil in line, among others, Fenerbahçe tightened the thumbscrews, but a goal did not yield the attacking spirit. After more than an hour of play, Enner Valencia came close to the equalizer; however, his header hit the post. The visitors continued to dominate and Basaksehir had little to say, but the score was suddenly doubled on the stroke of the final whistle. Against the odds, Fredrik Gulbrandsen put the 2-0 final score on the scoreboard on a pass from Visca.
