Fenerbahçe has qualified for the quarter-finals of the Conference League. The team of coach Ismail Kartal did not play a convincing match and lost 0-1 to Union Sint-Gillis due to a goal by Mathias Rasmussen. However, after the 0-3 win in Belgium, the defeat had no consequences Fener.

On the Fenerbahçe side, Edin Dzeko and Dusan Tadic, among others, were rested. The veterans were replaced by Michy Batshuayi and Ryan Kent respectively. Ferdi Kadioglu, Jayden Oosterwolde and Sebastian Szymanski were at the kick-off.

After good preparation on the left side, Gustaf Nilsson had an excellent opportunity to open the scoring. The Swede saw Kadioglu slip and shot with his left, but saw that Kadioglu got up just in time to prevent Nilsson from getting his shot on target.

At the other end, Bright Osayi-Samuel thought he would open the score, if it weren't for offside. Szymanski got the next chance on behalf the Yellow Canariesbut the Pole headed over in a promising position.

Union was clearly the dominant party in Istanbul, but the much-needed goals were not forthcoming. Rasmussen, among others, came close several times, but the Norwegian lacked the necessary fortune in finishing.

Union was also the better team after the break and finally managed to reward itself halfway through the second half. Rasmussen convincingly headed a cross from the left against the ropes: 0-1.

Union needed at least two more goals to continue to have a chance of advancing to the next round. Fenerbahçe played below par and got away well when Alexander Djiku narrowly saved substitute Henok Teklab's header on the goal line.

Time was ticking away in favor of Fenerbahçe, who pushed forward a little more in the final phase and gained time through a number of corner kicks. Union still needed two goals and the Belgians also gradually realized that it was not going to happen anymore.
