It would have been close if Amin Mohammed Doudah had not recently signed his first professional contract with PSV. The eighteen-year-old midfielder extended his contract with PSV at the end of March until mid-2023, but could have almost ended it after he sustained a curious injury in the youth at the Under-16. The injury was so rare that even doctors couldn’t handle it.

“If even the doctors don’t know what exactly is going on, you worry for a while,” Doudah tells The newspapaer. “At a certain point in a match against Ajax I couldn’t hold it anymore. It felt like I could no longer walk. Then I went to the trainer to say that it was no longer possible. I had a very difficult time with that, also mentally. Getting up every morning at 5:30 am to do exercises without knowing when I would be able to play football again was very hard. I had a lot of support from my parents. They also had a hard time seeing me like this, but they always kept pushing me. “

Doudah made several visits to medical specialists, but to this day the exact cause of the injury remains a guess. Among other things, the enormous loss of muscle mass led to concern among the midfielder and the medical staff. “Nobody seemed to understand what was going on,” says physiotherapist Joren Nijs. “But we suspect that a viral infection has affected his nerve. That caused certain muscle groups, including his quadriceps and adductors, to temporarily fail. Even raising his leg was no longer possible at some point.”

PSV took over Doudah from Anderlecht in 2013, where the central midfielder enjoyed his youth training. Doudah then went through various PSV youth teams, to join the selection of Young PSV in the autumn of 2020. At that time, the team of trainer Peter Uneken was struggling with no fewer than twelve positive corona cases, as a result of which several youth players were transferred to the U23 team. Doudah made his debut in professional football in November last year in the away match of Jong PSV against FC Den Bosch (1-2 win).
