Federico Chiesa is out for the time being, his employer Juventus reports. The 24-year-old attacker suffered a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament against AS Roma (3-4 win) on Sunday and will be operated on in the coming days. Juventus are not making any statements about the expected recovery time, which is normally six to nine months.

It went wrong for Chiesa on Sunday in Rome after half an hour when he started for a sprint. There was immediate fear of a serious knee injury, which was confirmed by an examination in a private clinic. Juventus also speaks of ‘damage’ to the cruciate ligament, but Sky Italy know it’s a crack. With that, the season for Chiesa is over and he also misses the crucial play-offs for World Cup qualification with Italy. The country first plays against North Macedonia in March and could then meet Portugal.

Chiesa is in his second season with Juventus and is one of the star players. The wing striker had only just returned from a muscle injury and made the important equalizer four days ago against Napoli (1-1). Against AS Roma he gave the assist to Paulo Dybala in the eighteenth minute for the 1-1, but soon after he was injured. Chiesa has made 18 official appearances for Juve this season, scoring 4 goals and 4 assists.

Andrea Agnellic
Juventus also reports that Andrea Agnelli has contracted corona. The chairman shows no symptoms and has gone into self-isolation. Agnelli was not present at Juventus’ match at AS Roma on Sunday and will also miss Wednesday’s Supercoppa game against Internazionale. Last week Vice President Pavel Nedved also tested positive.
